Kettering, UK – Chinese foam manufacturer South East Asia Holdings Group has been awarded SATRA – accredited status for the quality control laboratories in two of its factories – the first foam producer in the world to receive the honour.
Following an audit of its system and procedures, the group’s Foamtech and Zhong Shan Ltd units both demonstrated a “high commitment to quality management, backed by comprehensive and reliable testing procedures,” according to SATRA’s 29 Sept statement.
As a result both will be allowed to perform a range of physical tests, including hardness, density, tensile strength, ball rebound and repeated compression to a range of ISO, ASTM and JIS methods, said the statement.
The laboratories will also be SATRA accredited for the following flammability test: UK Statutory Instrument 1988 No. 1324, The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988, Schedule 1, Part 1 together with State of California Department of Consumer Affairs Bureau of Home Furnishings and Thermal Insulation Technical Bulletin 117, March 2000, Section A Part 1 & Section D, Part II.
Chief executive of SATRA RIchard Turner presented the accreditation certificates to Johnson Lim in a ceremony at the technology centre’s office in Dongguan City, China.
“S E Asia is to be congratulated on becoming the first foam producer in the world to have their laboratories accredited by SATRA,” said Turner, in the statement. “This award recognises that they work to the same high standards in their labs as SATRA does in the UK.”
According to SATRA, three other factories of Foamasters International Ltd, the parent group of South East Asia Holdings, have also applied for SATRA accreditation for their quality control laboratories and SATRA auditors are due to visit these facilities in the near future.
UK-based SATRA is a non-profit organisation which performs a wide variety of tests and procedures on consumer products. IT operates from multi-million pound testing and research facilities on two sites in Northamptonshire.
